YDL League U13 & U15 Report

Updated: May 17, 2018

Saturday 21st April - Yate

The start of 2018 season began with the YDL league at Yate in fine form were the Newport Harriers under 13 and under 15 team with great atmosphere from parents and helpers to team manager Sarah priest.

The day started cloudy with some rain showers but that did not dampen the spirits of the team and soon it brought out the sunshine with numerous personal bests from all athletes of both age groups from sprinting down the home straight to jumping for success in pole vault and our very own Ellie-Mae wainwright as she cleared an astonishing heights in all her jumps creating four Personal bests and gaining the club record this was an amazing performance and deserved athlete of the match well done Ellie-Mae.

In other areas of the action Olivia Reid took to the 300m for the first time and smashed it with a fantastic 2nd place finish and one event Olivia should keep at as I can see great potential. Also Tiwaah Boateng now lies happily top of the UK rankings for under 13 girls in the 75m and 150m after flying her way down the track to a blistering time.

There where other fantastic performances on the track by Erika Jarett, Olivia Gilespie who lies 9th in the UK for 75m, Nia Parry, Addison Werner, Antonia Dawes from team girl power also picking up the girl power in the field events where Cordelia Goodger, Emily fry and Ellie-Mae Wainwright

The boys also had some fantastic performances on track by Joesph Wayte, Spencer Daniels, Efan Bentall and Tathan Jones. The field was very busy throughout the day with fantastic performances by Samuel Davies, morgan Keen Williams and Cameron Eley who now leads the welsh rankings for his age group after a fantastic leap in the long jump.

With these performances and still some athletes to add to the mix for the next match I can see them challenging the top clubs Bristol and west athletics club and North Somerset to the top two places.

After the final events of the day we finished in 3rd with an excellent score of 506 just 5 points behind North Somerset so let’s get ready to bring a battle for the next YDL match on 19th May at Neath. Finally like to thank all officials and parents who came out and helped the team gather all valuable points all your hard work is highly appreciated.
