Welsh Junior League - U11s Report

Sunday 3rd June Cardiff Met

As seems to be the norm this year, Newport Harriers arrived for another very hot and sunny day. Suntan lotion and hats out in force.

We had an amazing group of officials out on the field for most of the day, some of whom had also officiated on the Saturday for the older age groups.

The Newport Team once again came home in a strong overall 3rd position.

Under 11s were Jorge Bishop, Ryley Fussell, Joseph Kulisa, Alfie Belcher, Dylan Evens, Charlie Ferris, Vaughn Hughes Henry Roach and Harvey Willcox. Ellla Ham, Maisie Davies, Anya Brady, Ava Stratford-Davies, Connie Bradley, Darcy Simmonds and new to competition, Carys Edwards, Isobel and Jessica Lewington, Lily Eaton, Teagan Werner, Darcy Taylor and Cerys Davies.

We had a bit of a dodgy start on the boys and girls long jump, as the take off line was marked with tape and not a takeoff board. This proved a little problematic during the first round of jumps, but the children soon got the hang it. Ella Ham came 3rd for the girls with a new pb and Charlie Ferris came 2nd for the boys with a new pb, Harvey Willcox also gained a new long jump pb.

In the sprints there were some fantastic running with new pbs in the 75ms for Carys Edwards, Darcy Taylor and Isobel Lewington and 150m new pbs for Lily Eaton, Maisie Davies and Jessica Lewington. Ella Ham was the first Newport girl in the 75m coming in 4th place and Darcy Simmonds first Newport girl in the 150m coming in 6th place.

In the boy’s sprints Ryley Fussell came 3rd in the 75m with a new pb 11.63, and in the 150m Charlie Ferris was the first Newport boy in 4th position, followed closely by Ryley Fussell.

Anya Brady looking stronger with each race easily won the 800m with new pb of 2.47.89, 6 seconds faster than her previous pb. New comer Teagan Werner put in an excellent performance with a time of 3.07.02 gaining vital points for the club and there were good performances from Ava Stratford-Davies and Connie Bradley.

For the boys 800m Vaughn Hughes ran a close race finishing 2nd with a new pb 2.47.37, 5 seconds faster than his previous time and Dylan Evans finished 6th also with a new pb 8 seconds faster than last time. Also, a great performance from Henry Roach.

Jorge Bishop came 2nd in the boys shot and Charlie Ferris had a new pb in 5th position

Jorge also came 1st in the javelin with a new pb of 19.40 and Harvey Willcox and Henry Roach also had a pbs in the same event.

In the girls shot, Darcy Taylor, Cerys Davies, Jessica and Isabel Lewington all performed well all with new pbs.

Teagan Werner won the girls javelin with a final throw and pb of 12.45m and there were pbs from Ava Stratford Davies, Anya Brady and Connie Bradley.

The girls relay team came 5th and the boys team were 4th.

Athlete of the match for Under 11s is Charlie Ferris. Charlie competed in 3 events he had 2 new pbs and gained 38 points for the team. Well done Charlie
