Welsh Junior Championships

23rd and 24th June - Welsh Junior Championships, Cardiff


A massive congratulations to all Newport Harriers athletes that took to the track this glorious weekend for another fantastic welsh junior championships.


Under 13 girls 200m found two Newport athletes on top form Tiwaah Boateng taking the silver medal to add to her welsh championship gold medal in the 100m on the Saturday and behind Tiwaah was the 2018 welsh champion Olivia Gillespie adding to her bronze medal from the 100m on Saturday. Congratulations girls it was a tough day battling through 3 rounds of 200m after battling 3 rounds the day before in the 100m but our girls stayed cool and pulled it out when it was needed.


Sapphire Samuel won silver in the under 15 walk with Poppy Stowell-Evans taking bronze. There was a non Welsh competitor in the under 20 women's shot, so Gwennan Lewis took silver and Caris Morgan won bronze.


Newport Harriers enjoyed several gold medal-winning performances, including David Locke and Dylan Bevan in the under-17 men’s 800m and shot put respectively.


Nine more Newport Harriers athletes finished with silver medals, Iwan Dark taking home two from the under-13 boys’ shot put and discus. Iwan also got a new club record in the shot!


Ceri Griffiths (U13 girls’ 1500m), Bethan Wainwright (U13 girls’ 400m hurdles), Remi Adebiyi (U20 men’s 1500m), Samuel Rutherford (U20 men’s 100m), Caris Morgan (U20 women’s javelin), Leo Stark (U13 boys’ 800m), Owen Locke (U20 men’s 800m) and Libby Davidson (U15 girls’ high jump) were the others.


Newport Harriers Shireen Balouch (U20 women’s 400m hurdles), Amelia Fettis (U15 girls’ discus), Ellie-Mae Wainwright (U15 girls’ pole vault), Cameron Eley (U13 boys’ long jump), Amy Jenkins (U17 women’s high jump) and Gwennan Lewis (U20 women’s shot put) all collected third places.
