Welsh Indoor Combined Events Championships
Cardiff, 21st October
Newport Harriers’ seven athletes produced a combined total of 23 individual PBs in the perfect weather environment of the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff.
Best overall performance came from Ellie-Mae Wainwright who was 5th in U16 Girls. She was top among the ‘1st year’ U16s which augurs well for this time next year. Ellie-Mae PB’d in 60m hurdles, high jump, shot & 800m, and her pentathlon score will place her 29th on UK indoor rankings.
Morgan Keen Williams was 17th in U16 Boys with PBs in 60m hurdles, 200m, shot & 800m.
Harry Bradley was our other top 10 finish, coming 8th in U14 Boys. Harry PB’d in hurdles, while his two best events were long jump & 800m where he was 4th best in the 23-strong field.
Jorge Bishop in U14 Boys, and Carys Edwards, Ruby Eatherington & Millie Williams in U14 Girls, were all Year 6 athletes competing against Y7 & Y8, but all competed confidently against older stronger competitors. Jorge was 21st with PBs in shot, hurdles & 800m. Carys was 38th with PBs in hurdles, shot & 800m. Ruby 39th and Millie 43rd PB’d in all 4 events – long jump, hurdles, shot & 800m. Ruby had to PB in everything as this was her debut athletics competition.
Allison Werner put in a whole day’s shift as she diligently developed her officiating portfolio.
