Updated: Jun 13, 2018
U13 Athlete of the match is Cameron Eley
An all-round strong contribution to the day from Cameron with a first in the long jump achieving 4.28m and a fantastic 2nd in the High Jump reaching 1.26m PB in his first competition in this event.
A great day of athletics at Cardiff in the lovely sunshine with a great attendance from the U13 squad.
Strong performances from Olivia and Cameron in the 100/200m saw both finishing in top 3 overall. The boys followed with more PB’ falling for Joseph, Zac, Will, and Cameron in the 100/200m with Aron taking a second and third place overall. In the girls 800m Nia Parry, Mia Willets, Amy Garrod and Erin Jones all smashed their PB’s with Ceri Griffiths putting in a clinical delivery to also take around 6 seconds off her personal best. The boys followed up with Harry Bradley in the 800m and George Vaughan 1500, both improving on their PB times. An outstanding effort from all our endurance athletes in the warm conditions.
Iwan again formed the bedrock of the field events for Newport’s U13 team with Harry Dawes and Jacob Powell both hitting new PB’s in the shot , discuss and Javelin.
Cameron Eley took the HJ by storm jumping a massive 1.26m to put him in second place overall in his first high jump!! The excellent jumping continued into the long jump with most athletes, boys and girls jumping great distances to beat existing PB’s, a fantastic display of the improvement to all athletes this season.
The day rounded off with an impressive relay display from both girls and boys. A big thank you to Ava Breese who turned up to watch this event only to find she was called up for her team. She smashed out a great first leg of the relay to set her team mates up for seemed a great combination for the future!!
Thanks to all those who helped out on the day its always appreciated.
We need your support in future meetings for more U13 athletes to compete in additional events where we have significant gaps i.e. HJ, Hurdles and throwing events. Please ask at the club if athletes would like to try out other events.
