U15 Welsh Junior League Cup Final

Swansea 19th August

Our final league performance saw Team Harriers take 4th place in the weekends Cup Final.

With blustery conditions by the sea and with a very much reduced team, due to holidays and unfortunate injuries, our consistent team spirit shone through.

With only 6 boys in the team, it was a tall order to compete in many events. Our sprinters Joseph Wayte and Zac Lloyd-Jones covered both 100m/200m and ran strong performances. They also doubled up in the A&B Long Jump and achieved 3rd places. Daniel Meehan and Isaac Jones ran in the 800m, Isaac with a PB (2.25) and also a PB for Dan in the Discus (14.30). Sam Breese finished 4th in the 80 Hurdles, was 2nd in the High Jump and finished with a PB in the Hammer (18.07).

Walker Price was 4th in the High Jump and our consistent field man, Morgan Keen Williams, competed in the Shot, Javelin and a gained a PB in the Discus (24.66). Well done boys.

Our girls also performed well. Cordelia Goodger was 3rd in the 100m and Long jumped into 1st place B-string with a PB of (4.64). Christina Griffith ran the 100m, was 1st in the Long Jump (4.78) and 1st in the B- 75m Hurdles with a PB of (12.65). Antonia Dawes ran a very strong 300m and came 2nd. Ellie-Mae Wainwright ran the 200m, was 1st in the A-75m Hurdles and 2nd in the Pole Vault. Our all rounder Cate Davies ran the 200m, was 1st in the B-Discus and 2nd in the Hammer. Another multi- eventer Libby Davidson was 3rd in the 300m, 4th in the High Jump and gained a 1st place in the B-Shot. More PB’s came from Poppy Stowell-Evans in the 1000m Walk (6.05) and Katelyn Seville PB in the Javelin (20.05). In the field Amelia Fettis was 2nd in the Shot and 4th in the Discus. Finally to our distance girls Ashleigh Steer 4th in the 800m and a 4th place for Lily Hart in the 1500m.

It was wonderful to see so many of our Junior athletes fill the gaps and push the team into 4th place, you all worked so hard in difficult windy conditions.

Our athlete of the match goes to CHRISTINA GRIFFITH. Congratulations on all your hard work

Many thanks once again to our team of Officials, who have done a tremendous job. Allison Werner has taken the bit between her teeth and is now a Level 2 Field Official. Without her hard work, who has also guided other parents to follow in her footsteps, many of the field events would not have taken place this season. Also to our new trainee Timekeeper Caroline Griffith, it was great to see you involved.

As our young athletes move on and up the age group it is PARAMOUNT that we include as many parents and supporters as possible to get involved with Newport Harriers. If YOU want YOUR child to continue to be part of the team, PLEASE, please no matter how small, contact myself, our Chairman Peter Hitchings, vice-chair Kirsty Crane or any coach. You do not need any prior knowledge, there are FREE training courses that can be taken locally.

I would also like to say thank you to our Chairman Peter Hitchings, U11 Team Manger Jean Rogers, U13 Jonathan Samuel, Kirsty Crane, Kevin & Bev Eley, Alex Dawes, Ken & Hilary Goodger and anyone who has offered help and officiated this season.

And Finally to All the other Athletes who have competed this season, you have all been AMAZING!!😁

Efan Bentall, Spencer Daniels, Oliver Humphreys, Samuel Davies, Jack Lawrence, Logan Maskell, Tathan Jones, Theodore Copestake, Joshua Jones, Erika Jarrett, Olivia Reid, Isabel Haden, Alyssa Baker, Elin Griffiths, Emily Fry, Bethan Morgan, Lily Williams, Morgan French, Lottie Van Toop, Emily Grace.
