Somerset Combined Events Championships & Open
28/29 April 2018, Millfield School, Street, Somerset
Four athletes from Newport Harriers entered as guests in the Somerset Combined Events Championships. Although the sun was out the wind chill made it a relatively cold day, but our athletes all recorded PBs on the day.
U13 Boys
This was Harry Bradley’s Combined Events debut. Of a total of 35 competitors in the Minor Boys Quadrathlon he was the only Year 6 against the Year 7s, and the he was the only guest taking on the might of Somerset & Dorset.
Harry came an exceptional 4th place, recording PBs in 100m, shot and 800m. At the end of the competition he was presented with a certificate by the legendary Alan Lerwill, Olympian and 1974 Commonwealth Games long jump champion.
U15 Girls
This was the largest field of the day with 48 competitors. Our top finisher was Bethan Morgan in 10th place, 11 places higher than in the same competition last season, recording PBs in 75m hurdles and pentathlon.
Ellie-Mae Wainwright was 14th, with PBs in 75m hurdles, pentathlon, and equal PB in shot. As Antonia Dawes considers her future options in track & field, she performed with determination, recording PBs in shot and pentathlon.
