National Junior Road Relays

6 October, Sutton Coldfield

Newport Harriers took two teams to this year’s national championships, and were the only Welsh teams in the junior relays.

Our U15 Girls were 43rd out of 61 complete teams. Lily Williams was part of the mad charge as 77 starters squeezed on to the 5-metre wide road, handing over to Elin Griffiths in 53rd place. Elin ran the course 2 seconds quicker but advanced the team 14 places to 39th. Ashleigh Steer anchored Newport to their respectable 43rd place finish.

Our U17 Women were 36th out of 41 complete teams. Ellie Robinson produced our fastest leg to come in 38th out of the 51 starters. Lowri Thomas improved the team three places. Caitlin Jones, promoted from last year’s B squad, maintained consistency, dropping one place to 36th. Ellie and Caitlin can’t wait for next year’s competition as they will run in the Senior race and took a sneak preview of the extra course sections on their cool down run.
