Inaugural track race walk club records

2018 was a mini-breakthrough year for Newport Harriers race walking:

# U15s Sapphire Samuel & Poppy Stowell-Evans took silver and bronze in Welsh Championships, and also represented South East Wales Schools at Welsh Schools Championships # Poppy won silver for East Wales in Welsh Inter-Regional Championships # Sapphire, plus U17s Seren Jones & Caitlin Jones were also selected for East Wales in 1000m Walk in Welsh Inter-Regional Championships # Nia Parry & Alyssa Fitzgerald were 1st & 2nd in 1000m Walk in the Les Davies Cup

Now the longest track & field event on the Olympic schedule is the 50 kilometre walk but you have to start somehwere, and for junior athletes this is 1000m. Track race walking is relatively new for junior athletes which is why up till now it has not neen reflected on the club records page. So after some research into previous performances going back to the 1970s, we have now added track race walking to the club records website page.

The walks tab is sparsely populated at the moment, but will be filled as athletes move up the ages and distances. We have no junior boys record holders, so the first boy to complete a track race walk will set a club record. Also note Caitlin Crimmins (U15G 1000mW 7.08.71 [2012]), Kayleigh Mitchell (U13G 1000mW 7.13.8 [2014]) and Seren Jones (U17W 1000mW 7.43.84 [2017]), whose record-setting performances were not recognised at the time, but have since been broken.

So check out the web page, and congratulations to club record holders Nia Parry, Sapphire Samuel, Seren Jones, Phillipa Reilly and Colin Bradley: https://www.newportharriers.com/club-records
