Gwent League & East Wales Cross Country Championships

Pembrey, 10 November

Newport Harriers three second places in race 2 of Gwent League, and dominated the East Wales Championships taking 6 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze in on the individualm podium, and 4 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze on the team podium.

U11 Boys: Vaughn Hughes was 21st in Gwent League, and together with Tom Garrod and Dylan Evans took East Wales team gold.

U11 Girls: 5th in Gwent League and East Wales silver for Anya Brady, and team silver for Anya, Emily Walker and Nia wakley.

U13 Boys: Leo Stark took 2nd in Gwent League, which is our highest finish in this age group since 06/07 season, and gold in East Wales. Team bronze for Leo, Harry Bradley and Joel Miles. U13 Girls: A great Gwent League 2nd place and East Wales gold for Ceri Griffiths.

U15 Boys: 20th in Gwent League for Josh Jones and East Wales silver. East Wales team bronze for Josh, Oliver Humphreys and Isaac Jones. U15 Girls: 14th for Elin Griffiths in Gwent League. In East Wales it was a Newport clean sweep – Elin gold, Lily Hart silver, Lily Williams bronze. These three naturally took team gold, andNewport took team silver as well with Alyssa Baker, Emily Wolcox and Ashleigh Steer.

U17 Men: Spencer Smith was 6th in Gwent League and 2nd in East Wales. U20 Men: 5th in Gwent League and East Wales gold for Jackson Mountford, silver for Remi Adebiyi. U17/U20 team: Gold for Jackson, Remi and Spencer, bronze for Michael Owen, Luke Gawthorn and Oscar Denton.

U17 Women: 16th in Gwent League and East wales silver for Lowri Thomas. U20 Women: East Wales gold for Shireen Balouch, 9th in Gwent League. U17/U20 team: Gold for Lowri, Shireen and Ellie Robinson.

Senior Women: There was a private battle between Gwent League debutant Rondine Molinaro and comeback kid Rhian Loudon. Rondine opened up a 60-metre gap, Rhian clawed this back and overtook Rondine as they approached the final sand dune, but Rondine responded with a strong finish for 178th with Rhian coming in 182nd. Our Senior Women move up to 10th in Division 3.

Senior Men: Abed Teweldebrhan secured our third Gwent League 2nd place of the day. This was Abed’s return having missed race 1. Abed tok gold in East Wales. Kevin Seville was 211th, and lack of a full team means Newport are rock bottom 12th in Division 2 and already doomed to relegation.
