Congratulations to Steve Jones on gaining his MBE

The athletics career of Newport Harriers Life Member and former world marathon and half marathon record holder Steve Jones was recognised when today he was named in the queens birthday honours. Nine times Welsh cross country champion Steve is a quiet unassuming man who once said of his achievements " I run a bit"

He held the British Marathon record for 33 Years and it remains the Welsh record and the second fastest time ever by a British athlete.

Steve coaches and lives in Boulder Colorado. His move to the USA was as a result of being able to earn a living from running in America. Steve's sister still lives in Gwent and he regularly returns to visit his family. The award is overdue and thoroughly deserved"
