BMC Academy

5 May, Millfield School, Street, Somerset

Eight Newport Harriers competed in the British Milers Club annual Academy meeting in the expensive surroundings of Millfield School, and these eight athletes all left with incredible PBs.

Owen Locke and Remi Adebiyi each achieved an England Athletics U20 entry standard in 800m and 1500m respectively, while everyone else rearranged the Welsh rankings lists. Ceri Griffiths shot to the top of Welsh U13G rankings in 800m, Leo Stark is now 2nd in U13B 800m, Remi is 2nd and Jackson Mountford 4th in U20 1500m, Owen is 4th in U20 800m, Ashleigh Steer is 5th in U15G 800m, Elin Griffiths is 5th in U15 1500m, Jake Seville is 6th in U17 1500m. In addition, one of the BMC pacemakers was Newport’s David Locke who is currently ranked 1st in U17 800m.

So this was not just a parade of top Newport Harriers talent, but a demonstration of top Welsh middle-distance talent wearing the black & amber colours.

Post-script: Connor Richards ran a solo front-running 800m effort in 2.02.1 at the Brewer Games in Cheltenham on Monday 7th May to go 3rd in U17 Welsh rankings.
