Blustery conditions at the SIAB Trials

Twelve Newport Harriers Athletes were involved in the SIAB trials that were split between Brecon and Neath due to ongoing issues with the newly installed hammer cage at Brecon.

The competition at the beautifully located semi rural location of Brecon was affected by the inevitably windy conditions.

Athletes were informed that first place would guarantee them selection for the SIAB meeting which will this year be held in September. However as will be revealed below not everything was as simple as it seemed.

In Brecon several athletes secured selection by winning their events. These were:

Morgan Keen Williams Long Jump 5m 85cm 1st Personal Best

Ellie May Wainwright Pole Vault 3m 21cm 1st Season Best

Henry Evans 1500m S/C 4m 50.57s 1st Personal Best

Libby Davidson finished joint first in the high jump with 1m 45cm, but despite there being adequate time to decide the result on the day with a jump off between the tied athletes no attempt was made to do so and the athletes have been informed that the final decision will have to wait until later in the season.

Other results from Brecon were:

Tiwaah Boateng 100m 12.58s 2nd

Tiwaah Boateng 200m 26.43s 2nd

Oliver Humphries 3000m 9m 35.23s 2nd

Morgan Keen Williams Triple Jump 11m 86cm 2nd Personal Best

Morgan Keen Williams Javelin 38m 43cm 3rd

Aedan Wiltshire Long Jump 5m 03cm 4th

Cordelia Goodger Long Jump 4m 54cm 5th

Olivia Reid 200 metres 27.45s 5th Personal Best

Izzie Walker Javelin 29m 19cm 5th Personal Best

Meanwhile in Neath the threatened rain held off as the athletes vied for supremacy in the hammer, shot and discus.

Securing her place in the SIAB team was:

Amelia Fettis Shot Putt 11m 36cm 1st

Completing the line up of future stars were:

Cate Davies Shot Putt 9m 50cm 2nd Personal Best

Amelia Fettis Hammer 40m 13cm 2nd Personal Best

Cate Davies Hammer 35m 80cm 4th

Athletes who were in the top 8 in the Welsh Rankings were invited, but it appears that not all were invited and some were missing because of self isolation rules following covid 19 outbreaks in their schools.
