What we Do

Newport Harriers Athletics Club was established in 1896; making it South Wales’s oldest athletics club. The club has a rich history of competing at road and cross country and running; and track and field athletics involving the sprinting, jumping and throwing events and middle distance running. We are proud to have helped the development of world class Olympic medallists such as Christian Malcolm and Jamie Baulch; and world record holder for the marathon, Steve Jones. Newport Harriers is based at the Newport Stadium where we provide coaching and competition for all athletics events for all age groups from age 7 through to senior and master athletes. We are a very diverse and welcoming club for athletes of all abilities and backgrounds.  With younger children we aim to develop strong and healthy all round athletes before training them to compete in specific events. Training nights at the stadium are on Monday, Tuesdayand Thursday; although some training groups will organise separate sessions at locations away from the track at other times.

Despite the pandemic we had a good year on the track with 9 Welsh schools internationals, welsh junior and senior champions, 2 British internationals.
